Software Engineer - (Intern/Co-op) - Waterloo

The following position is only open to students registered in a Canadian University or College program, who have completed a minimum of 2 years of their degree or diploma program, and who must be returning to full-time study upon the completion of the temporary work term.
This student position is based in Waterloo, Ontario and is a 4 MONTH work term.
Members of our team work on software systems that enable the remote management, configuration and secure connectivity of medical information systems. Using high level design documents, they will implement the identified software components, ensuring that the implemented components are unit tested and ready to be integrated into the product.
As an intern at Karos, you will:
- Be a member of a small development team, designing and building products that wow our customers.
- The opportunity to work closely with management and senior engineers.

- Work primarily on Macs, but with flexibility to choose the right platform for the job.

Our ideal candidate will have the following required qualifications:
- Extensive experience with Java is essential; J2EE a plus.
- Exposure to scripting languages: Bash/Sh, Python, Ruby.
- Knowledge of web technologies: HTML, XML, Javascript.
- Knowledge of networking concepts: TCP/IP, RPC, Sockets, etc.
- Experience working in an agile software development environment.
- Experience with Mac OS X and/or Linux operating systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
The following optional qualifications are an asset:
- Understanding of relational database design, SQL and MySQL.
- Knowledge of web technologies: SOAP, WSDL, AJAX, Google Web Toolkit.
- Experience with Adobe FLEX, Flash and the BlazeDS framework.
- Familiarity with security concepts: PKI, TLS/SSL, defensive programming.
- Web design experience with Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
