Software Engineer

As an Software Engineer at Karos, you will:

  • Be a member of a small development team, designing and building products that improve the quality of patient care.
  • Work closely with management, product managers and senior engineers.
  • Have access to cutting-edge technologies.
  • Design clean, reliable, simple and well-tested components and frameworks to simplify the exchange of healthcare information.
  • Work primarily on Macs, but with flexibility to choose the right platform for the job.
  • Participate in a dynamic environment with a casual dress code and flexible work hours, to ensure work-life balance.

Our ideal candidate will have the following required qualifications:

  • An inquisitive mind.
  • BS, MS or Ph.D in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Development experience with Java and/or C++.
  • Experience with Mac OS X and/or some flavour of Linux.
  • Strong aptitude to learn new technologies and to solve problems independently.
  • Solid understanding of OOD/OOP and unit/system testing.
  • Experience to scripting languages: Bash/Sh, Python, Ruby, Perl, etc.

The following optional qualifications are an asset:

  • Knowledge of healthcare standards (e.g. HL7, DICOM, IHE).
  • Several years previous experience in healthcare IT.
  • Experience working in an agile software development environment.
  • Knowledge of web technologies: SOAP, WSDL, HTML, XML, GWT, Flash/Flex.
  • Understanding of relational database design: SQL, MySQL and/or Oracle.
  • Familiarity with application security: PKI, TLS/SSL, defensive programming.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts: TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, RPC, sockets, etc.
